Disaster Action Team  

 

  Description

The Central Virginia Chapter of the American Red Cross is looking for volunteers who want to serve the citizens of our community when disaster strikes.

  Responsibilities

The Disaster Action Team is the first response team to local disasters in our five county areas, including the City of Charlottesville and Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson.
Some responsibilities of DAT Members include:
1. Providing essential emergency assistance such as food, clothing, shelter, and emotional support to victims of natural and man-made disasters.
2. Registering all individuals and families involved in the disaster while completing Red Cross caseworker forms.
3. Acting as the Red Cross point of contact with Emergency Officials at the scene of a disaster.

  Qualifications

Disaster Action Team members must complete the following training courses:

DAT volunteers must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license to be on-call.

  Time Commitment

We ask that you commit to at least one shift every 90 days. Shifts last for one week. In addition, DAT volunteers attend monthly meetings lasting approximately 1-2 hours.
